Thanks to some pro-active child-at-school Mum's I came across a great web site for children to practice for spelling tests. This web site allows you to enter spelling words and then use them for teaching the word, learning the vocabulary and test your child on it.

Somewhere in the middle if your child wants to have some fun then they can select a game to play with the words. This can include:

• matching the word with the best corresponding sentence,
• use the words to correctly complete sentences,
• unscrambling sentences that contain the spelling words,
• complete a crossword or word search that uses the words,
• write a sentences or paragraphs using the spelling words,
• play hangman (or rather hangmouse),
• unscramble the letters or identify the missing letter,
• alphabetise the spelling words, and
• even print of handwriting practice sheets!

Tonight I was reading the e-book written by Sue Patricl on her Workbox System and she specifically highlighted the use of posters. She particularly noted purchasing two posters and cutting one into 'parts' that can be matched the the first and affixed with velcro. This made me think about what posters would be useful and informational in our home too.

Don't be deceived by the title! This web site has free resources for both mathematics and English, specifically, phonic-based reading and extension work on their web site.
